Rutlands Retired Breeding Dogs - What Happens to Them When they Retire?
Rutlands breeding dogs are well socialized and have beautiful natures which makes them in demand for forever homes when it is decided to retire them. They generally retire when they still young and have most of their lives ahead of them. As featured, they walk into their new families with wagging tails and goofy smiles and settle in so well that the most frequent comment is "it is as if she has been with us forever!" When Rutlands breeding dog have been living in a guardian home, after they retire, they remain with their family and continue to live the pampered life they have enjoyed since puppyhood.

Gypsy was very clever at opening doors. She decided she wanted to have her puppies in the laundry shoe cupboard one time although she had a lovely cosy nest all ready in the same room.
Gypsy's Update August 2010 at 12 1/2 Yrs of Age
Hi Beverley,
A quick update: Gypsy earned her Therapy Dog credential very easily and has been a Hospice Therapy Dog with me for several years. She is so sweet natured and loves the attention from people.
She is 12 1/2 now, so is slowing down a bit, but is as lovable as ever and has lots of friends at the off leash dog park.
She is still not terribly impressed with the ocean, but there are lots of interesting smells on the beach and she will get her feet wet now. We love her dearly and appreciate your breeding program that brings such wonderful dogs into the world!
Sally.

BRANDY 11 Yrs & 14.5 Updates - Beloved of Elizabeth and family in Rockport USA
Dear Beverley,
I have been meaning to send an update and picture of our beautiful Brandy for a long time now. Brandy turned 11 this summer and continues to bring such warmth and joy to our hearts. People always stop short in their tracks to say hello to her and exclaim at how beautiful and amazing she is. The groomer says people come in off the street to ask about her when she is there. We have been and always will be so grateful to have found her and brought her into our life!! Thank you again after all these years!! With Warmth, Elizabeth Rockport, MA USA |

1st January 2017
Dear Beverly At 14.5 years old Brandy continues to bring joy and happiness to our family. These elder years have slowed her down but she still thinks she is a puppy when bounding around playfully outside. We feel very blessed that she is gracing us with her lovable presence for so long. I have attached a photo from a beautiful walk in the woods yesterday. Happy New Year from Brandy and all of us who love her so much!! Elizabeth |
Tegan Park Shania (Nyah) - Retired to Sydney NSW 2011
Sweet Nyah drew quite a lot of attention from the small minded 'haters' who posted volumes on the internet about how she needed to be 'rescued'. Truth is that Nyah, once she came to Rutland Manor as an adult, enjoyed a life of love as my house dog companion, while she fulfilled her strong motherly instincts by not only raising her own puppies, but by voluntarily babysitting everyone else's as well!
Desexed and living with a wonderful family who adores her in Sydney, she is a hale and healthy eight year old (in 2012) who fitted in with her new family like a hand in a glove. Because of the ridiculous hype on the hate websites, we think Shania deserves her own page.

Maskie had her first and only litter of puppies in November 2009 before being retired to Melbourne with Julie and her other Australian Labradoodle 'Elly'
Julie changed Maskie's name to "Milly" and she has excelled at the Obedience Club where she won her very first competition.
Maski/Milly left her imprint on the Australian Cobberdog breed by giving us Rutlands Lil Masketeer who sired Rutlands Seanna, The Dog to Fulfil Dreams

I just had to post about my Little Milly. Today she passed her grade one test at Dog School. She was simply terrific and was given the best in class. What makes this so good is that she had only one lesson in this class before she passed this test. I am just sooooo proud of her. Lots of treats for her tonight.
Bring on class two!...LOL Julie Elly and Milly 17th September 2010 Hi Grandma Bev Mum thought you would like to know that I passed another grade at dog school. After only one lesson I passed grade two! Mum said she is SOOOOOO proud of me. I have now won three ribbons in only a couple of months. She keeps telling me how good I am. In two weeks I go to grade three. My best friend Elly tells me this is where I have the most fun....when I am off lead I can run away from mum. I think Elly is being naughty in telling me that though . Is that right Grandma!!!! Well better go and eat my treats mum has given me Looking forward to seeing you soon Milly |

Bertie - "Sacred Creatures"
Hi All,
If you're new, you will not know me. I have two dogs, one a retired Rutland Manor breeding dog: The Great Lady Chevonne of the Dingle (impressive name given by me, not Beverley!) And Doyle, who is not directly an RM dog, but entirely out of RM and TP lines. I've been with animals all my life, with horses predominating until age and physical handicap caught up with me, so I have a lot of memories of great interactions, grand horses and grand dogs. But until I chose these dogs, after 18 months of research, I did not know how fulfilling and complex the communication with human and canine could be.
Doyle's my Assistance Dog from early days, while The Lady came to me after having a career of her own, producing dogs who have taken her place as Rutland Manor breeding dogs. Chevonne is quiet and dignified, though she can outrun Doyle any day of the week and wrestle him to the ground without seeming to try. Her eyes steal those of people passing by, and sometimes they follow us saying..."That dog.....that dog.....what's she saying?" I can only smile.
I'm not saying that my two canines put on capes and save the world, or that I could keepup with them if they did! It takes a lot of time and listening to the dog to get the joy I've found with our two. But I never did reach tis level with any other type of dog, and it's been success of two out of two!
If you are lucky enough to be able to adopt a Rutland Manor pup or older dog, and if you give them what they deserve, your every cup of caring will be returned to you in bucketsful!
They are sacred creatures.

RUTLANDS MRS BEAN - REUNION OF PARENT AND CHILD!
Mrs Bean went to her loving forever home in 2005 where her own son "Toby" was already the pampered darling of Corry in California.
Tues 14 Nov 2006
Mrs Bean is getting more wonderful by the day and is very happy. She loves to go running so she is in great shape and leads the way, looking out for birds, cats rabbits or squirrels to chase. She bounds up the hills and through the leaves with such energy, vying with Toby to see who can get up faster. I can't believe how much energy she has.
During the week, my alarm goes off at 5.30 -- she jumps up on the bed about 5 mins before for her morning tummy rub while we listen to the news, then quivers with excitement as she waits for me to get dressed for our morning jog.

Toby has taken to being lazy in the mornings, and sometimes comes and sometimes not, depending on who knows what, but she, sits for her leash to be put on and then bounds out the door ready to get going.
We both love her to death. Thank you for allowing us the prilege of having her join our family. Corry |
Happy Wanderer of Rutlands - WANDA
(THE BEAUTY WHO GOSSIP FORUMS CLAIM CAME TO RUTLAND MANOR FROM ...... THE POUND!)
December 2007
Beverley, I have to tell you how much I adore Wanda! She is a fabulous dog. Her tail was wagging in her travel crate at the airport, and it hasn't stopped since except when she is sleeping.
She is beautifully trained, and so much easier to walk than my 2 Maltipoos (I wish you could train them for me). She has been completely accepted by Rosie (my 15 lb Maltipoo) and Bella (8 lbs) is working on it. She briefly forgot herself yesterday and started to play - then she remembered that Wanda has disturbed the balance. It was pretty funny. I think the fact that Wanda has had puppies makes her very accepting of the other two. Bella barked at her a lot in the beginning and Wanda just ignored her.
We are walking a couple of miles every morning and maybe 1 mile in the evening. I did take her on a 6 + mile walk and she did very well.
Thank you so much for this amazing dog, she is even more wonderful than I hoped she would be. Karen Hansen, Oregon USA

TARA Retired 2007 in Australia
Tarenella Tara
Hi Beverley,
Please be assured that Tara has come to a very happy and loving home. We have "bonded" exceptionally well and I am really very very happy to have her as my special companion.
I live alone and her welcome to me each night is magic. Tara has shown herself to have a wonderful nature and is excellently behaved in all circumstances ( including with my two grandchildren.
I count myself very fortunate and grateful to have had the opportunity to give Tara a home. She wins everyone over wherever I take her and comes in every night for companionship as we watch TV together. Now I am walking each day with great purpose for both our sakes. She is certainly an most important member of my family and has become my special friend. Thank you once again for giving Tara to me. Best wishes, Janet E.

Rutlands Aster and Rutlands Funnie Face (aka TORY)
Another parent and child reunion!
And yet another family where one retired Rutland Manor breeding dog was not enough!
RUTLANDS ASTER just before leaving for her forever home
We did not know that I was a latent dog-lover coming into my own!! There's a new arrival at Robbins RD.
I had a recent surprise of the early retirement after one litter, of Aster, Tory's mother (Rutlands Funnie Face). Like any other being available for adoptions, the wonderful folks at Rutland Manor and I did some rapid planning, and Aster arrived safe and sound.
She is the gentlest, most unusual looking dog I have ever seen. You don't see it in the pictures, but her coat is an incredible mix of colors - grey-dark grey underneath, going blonde on the ends, the ends of her ears are light brown and she has dark brown around her eyes and on the bridge of her nose. Depending on how the light hits her, her coat has a lavender case that is phenomenal. She is a total sweetheart. Judy Robbins

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE AT RUTLAND MANOR
I am in love with Tory (aka Funnie Face) as ever. We have our routine down and she has decided to become a member of my extended family. It snowed for the first time this year and Tory has given the word frolic a whole new meaning for me. I don't think I have ever seen such joy and enthusiasm in any living creature!
I smiled and laughed for our entire hour long walk.

Dear Bev,
Our girl Ruby has a new habit when she lies next to you...pretty frequently ! She now puts one paw on your body and her little chin. I swear I can't love her any more and she just becomes more and more darling if I do say so myself, the kids tease me because I say it all the time, "Ruby loves her mommy!
We think of you every day. We love love love our muffins! We have had painters here for ages and a couple of them were afraid of them at first, but weeks later, they now lay on the dropcloths and keep them company. They are learning Spanish because the painters don't speak English :-)Thanks for sending me my best friends.
