Our Boys
Males can produce many more offspring than females, especially with the advent of canine Artificial Insemination,  so it's critical that stud dogs be chosen with the strictest criteria possible, since they can have such a huge impact on a breed for many generations to come.  

​I look on breeding like weaving a tapestry.  I  love the challenge of studying bloodlines to see which combinations 'nick' or work together well for what I'm trying to achieve.  Boys listed here are only a random sample. They represent bloodlines.  Some may be breeding elsewhere across the world, or be de sexed and in happy homes while their frozen semen provides diversity for me to call on from an extensive semen bank stored with the canine reproduction clinic at the CSU.  

​But each one has been personally loved and cherished at some time for who he is.  In his own eyes he is "just a dog" with the same simple needs as every dog on the planet.  His greatness to me, is not judged alone by the strength of his genetic impact on the Australian Cobberdog breed, but on the multitudes of tender moments and memories invoked by the thought of his name.

Prepotent for therapy temperament, he's just wonderful and is already leaving his stamp on his progeny.

When bred to smaller females his sons and daughters mature at his size of true medium.  But when he's bred to Standards or to Medium sized girls with Standard behind them in their lineage, his progeny are bigger.  A very handy sire!  And a beautiful intuitive and loving pet as well.

Rutlands Little Zumba was to be sent overseas, but then covid struck and international borders were closed.

Through mutual agreement, he has stayed here at Rutlands Australian Cobberdogs in Australia, passing on his impeccable breeding traits to his puppies.

Zumba (pronounced as in 'book') is a specialist sire of quality Miniatures and small Mediums, all with his own faultless sweet Therapy Dog temperament and mellow ways.
Zumba is always seeking contact with human eyes, and delights us the way he reacts intuitively to the way his humans are feeling at any given time.  You're tired? He's happy to  just lay with you and chill.  You're feeling active?  Let's play! his shining eyes say.  He's a treasure.

Danny was a dog before his time.   A gentle and sweet boy, extremely intuitive, the absolute definition of 'love sponge' and the exciting breakthrough I'd been searching for when so much was drifting away from my vision in general for the breed.  He was not posed for these photos, he was so perfectly balanced in his conformation that he just didn't know how to stand wrong or in any way not showing off his symmetry.  He was not bred with because the 'time' for optimal use of his traits had not yet come.  But I am extremely thankful now, that I had the foresight to have him collected, and frozen semen stored ready for the time it would be most needed which came in 2017 when outstanding breeding progeny were exported to Calli Prendergast of Stonewall Australian Cobberdogs in America and Renee Homan of Fifth Avenue Australian Cobberdogs in Holland.

This sweet little man needs no introduction really.  His beautiful nature shines through his eyes and his progeny continue to influence the future of the breed and to bring such therapeutic joy and comfort to many hundreds across the world.

The Little Prince almost defies a description that does him justice.  His sweetness and Therapy Dog temperament are beyond reproach and he has passed them onto his children and grandchildren.  I feel sure his influence will be felt in the Australian Cobberdog breed for many years to come.

Some of these influential sires still have their semen frozen and stored in Rutlands extensive semen bank.
Others have sons or daughters carrying on their  bloodlines at Rutlands in Australia, or in overseas breeders' breeding programs.
