Males can produce many more offspring than females, especially with the advent of canine Artificial Insemination, so it's critical that stud dogs be chosen with the strictest criteria possible, since they can have such a huge impact on a breed for many generations to come. But each one has been personally loved and cherished at some time for who he is or was. In his own eyes he is "just a dog" with the same simple needs as every dog on the planet. His greatness to me, is not judged alone by the strength of his genetic impact on the Australian Cobberdog breed, but on the multitudes of tender moments and memories invoked by the thought of his name.
Rutlands Riverdance -Danny - Medium
Danny was a dog before his time with a thin silky coat at a time when the majority were still dense and thick. A gentle and sweet boy, extremely intuitive, the absolute definition of 'love sponge' and the exciting breakthrough I'd been searching for when so much was drifting away from my vision in general for the breed. He was not posed for these photos, his conformation was so balanced that he just didn't know how to stand wrongly or in any way not showing off his symmetry.
I retained Danny and his litter sister Rutlands Chevonne from the litter of ten produced from my infusion of Rutlands Funnie Bunnie to the Soft Coated Wheaten (IRISH ONLY) in 2004. I knew I'd struck gold but the time wasn't right yet to use him at stud. I had him collected from and his semen frozen and stored ready for the time it would be most needed which came in 2017 when I used it over Rutlands Style and Grace. I was not disappointed and I exported outstanding breeding stock to Calli Prendergast of Stonewall Australian Cobberdogs in America and Renee Homan of Fifth Avenue Australian Cobberdogs in Holland. In 2020 Danny's frozen semen came into its own again when it was used on Rutlands Luna by Wallaby Way Australian Cobberdogs in Queensland Australia and again by me on Rutlands Style and Grace.
