Rutlands Australian Cobberdogs
A TRIBUTE TO TEGAN PARK SHANIA
This page is a tribute to TEGAN PARK SHANIA who has left an indelible legacy to the Australian Cobberdog breed. A descendant of the legendary 'Tegan Park Cool Dude', she has passed on her own amazing intuition, intelligence, gentle Therapy Dog temperament and outstanding conformation to her children grandchildren and beyond. This page is a tribute to "Nyah".
Nyah came to us at Rutland Manor as an adult and whatever her previous experiences may have been, she settled immediately into the life of a pampered house pet and a breeder who was happiest when nursing her puppies, or babysitting the puppies of others. How do you describe a dog who is a gentle obedient house/pillow dog, is lively and comical and uncannily intuitive all at the same time? It sounds like just a string of superlatives, but it is Nyah.

Sweet Nyah drew quite a lot of attention from the animal activist 'haters' who posted volumes on the internet about how abused she was being "forced" to breed and that she needed to be 'rescued'. Truth is that Nyah enjoyed a life of love as my house dog companion, while she fulfilled her strong motherly instincts by not only raising her own puppies, but by voluntarily babysitting everyone else's as well!
Desexed and living with a wonderful family who adores her in Sydney, since she turned seven she fitted in with her new family like a hand in a glove. Because of the ridiculous hype on the hate websites, we think Shania deserves her own page.

Pictures of Nyah while she was with us at Rutland Manor
When Nyah wasn't busy raising her own puppies, or babysitting someone else's children, she was always on the lookout for me to place the covers over the furniture. This was her signal that she and the others were allowed to lounge around on the chairs or the sofa and watch TV with me. Nyah was usually the first to notice and would hop up in her favourite place like the queen she is, before anyone else claimed her spot!
So what does Tegan Park Shania's new family think of the mature, beautifully socialised and cared for retired breeding girl who came to live with them in January 2012 at the age of seven? (Re-Named "Maggie")
Feedback from Nyah's Forever Home twenty four hours after her arrival in Sydney 25th January 2012
Hi Beverley,
We LOVE her! She is so gentle and kind and sits with a paw on one of the kids. Thank you!
Here she is getting picked up and later at home! She is perfect, and exactly as you said she would be, and just walked into the house and wandered around getting pats from the whole family! She is so gentle and relaxed and she seems so happy!
The kids took her for a walk this morning and they basically walked all around the streets to show all their friends! There are cuddles on tap which she loves and paws for more and more. I am about to go out and do a shop to buy all her favourite foods and the lactose free milk also. She is a much loved pooch!
Thanks Beverley, we will stay in touch,
Erica

UPDATE JULY 2012
Hi Beverley
Sorry it has been so long since I sent news of you girl. She is now famous all around the neighbourhood for being the best dog in the world. She follows us all around all the time and never even leaves us down at our local park which is off leash. She goes for a long walk every day and has a good run as we all take scooters (even me).
She has the best diet in the world with lots of fresh meat, chicken necks, tuna, occasional eggs, she has veges in with her dinner and grated cheese and olive oil on top, but her favourite once a week is spaghetti Bolognese. She starts jumping in the air!
She has 3 beds around the house and gets spoilt with love and pats. We even take her every Sunday to tennis and then dinner at a friends where she has a little dog companion who she loves.
We really can't imagine life without this special girl and thank you every day for this precious bundle of joy.
Much love and thanks - The Gregan Family xxxxxxxx

Note from Beverley...
We think that it will be apparent that no dog who has been 'abused' and mistreated as has been accused of Shania on some hate sites, would walk happily into a young busy family and fit in immediately so well with their activities and lifestyle. Truth has a way of presenting itself given time, and Shania's story is just one of many which disprove untruths on the internet about the way Rutland Manor breeding dogs are treated. Case closed. |
