What's a Puppy Farm?
What's a Puppy Farm?
Anyone who loves animals is appalled at the thought that puppy farms/puppy mills exist, although the choice of name for what used to be known as a puppy mill, is in my opinion a poor choice. There are horse farms (ranches) cattle farms, Lavendar farms, wheat farms and many more, but to suggest that farming is a despicable occupation is to me, nonsense. Of course there are some places that operate under less than ideal conditions, but there are also some parents who do not bring up their children properly. So are we to condemn all parents and brand them with a nasty name?
Fanatical Animal liberationists/ animal rights and one or two rival Labradoodle breeders (known to us) , with the help of paid disgruntled ex employees have flooded the internet with horror stories about Rutland Manor from 2008 to 2012. So what is the truth? How can anyone know for certain?
It's Not That Difficult Really,
All it takes is a grain of common sense and some simple comparisons between what Puppy factories do and what Rutland Manor does. You be the judge!
Puppy Farms, Puppy Factories, Puppy Mills
1. Breed large numbers of dogs, often up to a hundred or more breeding dogs in cages or small pens where they lack any kind of life enrichment program or socialisation. Vet treatment is not commonly used and mortality rate can be high. No health screening is done on parent dogs and puppies are often sold to dealers prior to vaccination. 2. Puppies are bundled off in bulk to pet shops or dealers at five or six weeks long before the legal age of eight weeks. The puppy ' farm' breeder has no contact with the future owners of the puppies they breed and they offer no guarantees nor accept responsibility for rehoming if necessary, nor for health issues that may arise after the mandatory seven days required by law.

Rutland Manor Labradoodle Breeding & Research Centre
1. Rarely has had more than 20 breeding dogs, usually much less, some of whom have been youngsters still growing up and not old enough to breed. Parent dogs are DNA identity profiled and DNA health screened for multiple hereditary diseases with Australian Specialised Animal Pathology Laboratories (A.S.A.P) How are Rutland Manor puppies raised? See how our puppies are raised here Professional and Veterinary Testimonials Here 2. Rutland Manor screens potential puppy adoptees and develops a personal relationship with them prior to them receiving their puppy and often for many years afterwards. Many return for their second and even third Rutlands puppy. See here for when one isn't enough!
Rutland Manor puppies come with a full two years' health warranty, vaccination, microchipping, worming and vaccination history and the offer of help if rehoming becomes necessary. |
3. Puppy mills do not health test their parent dogs. They want to do things as cheaply as possible and they most certainly do not DNA profile their breeding dogs to prove parentage or even what breeds have been mixed together.
|
3. Rutland Manor not only does exhaustive DNA health testing on its breeding dogs with A.S.A.P. laboratories, but we also do DNA identity profiling on each breeding dog to verify pedigrees. "Fake Pedigrees?" as accused, would make no sense at all!

Fanatical Animal Rights groups would have you think that Rutland Manor breeds its puppies confined to cages or dungeons, with no access to a normal life. The photos below show the facilities about which these stupid claims were made. Photos on hate site websites show pictures of neglected dogs which have never belonged to Rutland Manor at all.
