Rutland Manor has led the way in responsible dog breeding for many years including pioneering procedures that were unheard of in either the pure breed or mixed breed and mandating them in the The Australian Labradoodle Association (LAA) and the International Labradoodle Association (ILA)   which were the first Labradoodle Registries in the world. Both were founded by Rutland Manor and the health testing mandates were put in place in the face of heated opposition from many who thought it was unnecessary and a waste of time.

These are the mandates pioneered and put in place by Beverley Manners when she founded the first two Labradoodle Registries in the world, first the LAA (Labradoodle Association of Australia) and the ILA (International Labradoodle Association).

The selection of male dogs for breeding plays a critical role in dog breeding programs. Males have a huge impact on a breed due to the number of progeny they can produce in their lifetime, and beyond due to semen collection and freezing.  A female dog will produce many fewer puppies. Whereas sophisticated technology including embryo transfer into recipient females is routinely used in other animal species, very little research has been done in this field for the canine.  It is known that female dogs are unique in many aspects when compared to other kinds of animals, and specialized research may catch up in the future if funding becomes available which makes it a viable enterprise for scientists.

We are grateful that we took advantage of technology over the years and have a semen bank from the beautiful dogs stolen in the Texas Heist in June 2010, and this enables Rutland Manor to continue with the diversity of our breeding program.
