When I was a girl, it was a rare occurrence for a dog to be taken to the vet for anything other than treatment after an accident, or for vaccination. Dogs just didn't often get sick!
It was almost unheard of, for a dog to have cancer, kidney dysfunction, diabetes, vaccinosis or allergies - all of which have reached pandemic status in the millenium. One of the advantages of getting old is that one has had the opportunity to witness various cycles that come and go, and trends that have taken many years to develop. I first began to notice a decline in the health of dogs, a few years after the introduction of dry dog food. I didn't immediately make the connection, until I examined the extensive notes I'd been keeping. |
