WHO REALLY CREATED AND DEVELOPED THE AUSTRALIAN LABRADOODLE?

When surfing the web, it is interesting to note that many breeders in their 'History' section readily attribute the creation of the Labradoodle to Wally Conron. No mention is made of Don Evans, a man in Victoria Australia who initially cross bred Poodles and Labradors without the publicity given to Wally, probably due to Wally's association with the Guide Dogs.
There is usually no mention made either, of Tegan Park or Rutland Manor Breeding & Research Centres, in the creation of what breeders call "our amazing breed".
History sections on breeders' websites also fail to mention that the world's first Labradoodle Registry (LAA)was founded and formed by Tegan Park and Rutland Manor, and that Rutland Manor founded and formed the first international Registry in the world for Labradoodles...the International Labradoodle Association (ILA). Both these Associations later merged to become the current day sister registries as of 2013.
DOES IT REALLY MATTER?
Well.... for the sake of accurate recording of history, we think it may!

THE K.I.S.S. PRINCIPLE
Amidst so much confusion, it is little wonder that I receive dozens of emails each week from frustrated families across the world, asking me who was breeding the 'authentic' Australian Labradoodle and who was not!
Next, the 'Australian Labradoodle name was sabotaged by the breakaway registries claiming it as their own, and confusion reigned even more than before. There was simply no point in changing the name again until an arms length independent registering body for pure breed dogs was willing to accept the authentic dogs as a recognized pure breed in development.
This occurred in January 2012 when the Master Dog Breeders and Associates (MDBA), a global registry for all Pure Breed Dogs, accepted the authentic Australian Labradoodle into its Foundation Pure Breed registry. It was necessary for me to provide them with detailed records, DNA verification and the way in which the breed had been created and developed, which I did. The proviso was that due to the world wide confusion and bastardisation of the name 'Labradoodle' or 'Australian Labradoodle', a breed with 'Labradoodle' in its name could not be accepted. What is not widely known, is the AKC and ANKC had struck a deal, and agreed that the Labradoodle or Australian Labradoodle would never be accepted whilst carrying that name. Hence the new and permanent name for the authentic breed, of the Australian Cobberdog.

There can be too much emphasis placed on colour and coat type, as being the be-all and end-all of this breed. Because the puppies are so much in demand, and so easy to sell, some breeders can tend to overlook the beautiful and intrinsically intuitive nature which is a hallmark of the breed. For this quality to be lost would be an undeniable tragedy.
Look Into My Eyes..
The expression in this 8 week old puppy's face says it all.
Her eyes are looking into your soul, searching your thoughts and emotions, and remember this young baby was only looking into the lens of a camera.
True representives of this breed do not look 'at you' they look deeply into your soul which is one of the traits so frequently impressing new owners.

An enigma of this breed is the curious blending of their comical and goofy nature with a pensive and soulful expression that they are very smart at using, in the sure knowledge that it captures the hearts of those who behold it!
When a naughty puppy is caught in the act of 'wrongdoing' he instinctively turns on the innocent 'who...ME?' look guaranteed to have any owner in stitches of laughter and totally forgetting the misdemeanour! |
