An informative article on Breeding Fallacies by Dr Kate Schoeffel from The Australian Journal of Professional Dog Breeders. Is Skipping Breeding Cycles Really "Resting" the Bitch?
IS IT BEST FOR A HEALTHY FEMALE DOG TO SKIP HEAT CYCLES?
After a heat cycle, the female dog steps up her hormone production to line the walls of her uterus in preparation for the litter that Nature expects her to grow inside of her womb. One of these hormones is oestrogen. An over abundance of oestrogen, produces an acidic environment which is perfect for cancer to develop and to thrive. The difference between the female dog and other female animals, is that their bodies do not recognize whether they have been mated or not when it comes to producing estrogen. It's the heat cycle itself which signals to the bitch to release the estrogen that courses through her body to prepare it for conception and parturition. So when the estrogen is not used by growing puppies, and milk production, it provides the ideal environment for killer cancers and pyometras of the womb to develop.
Based on research I've done into articles by eminent professionals in canine physiology, I am convinced that it is in the best health interests of young healthy adult female breeding dogs, to mate them on successive heats and spay them younger than is currently done so that they still have years to fully live out their lives as cherished companions.
QUESTION: WHO decided and WHY that it's harmful to breed a bitch on successive cycles? Or that it's cruel for female dogs to have babies?
ANSWER: Animal Liberation Extreme Activist Groups. By focusing on bad or immoral breeders, emotional responses are stirred in the general public domain, which gains support for the relentless agendas of the extremist activists.
We should not confuse Animal Welfare with Animal Liberation. Did you know that Animal LIBERATION groups have an admitted agenda to terminate human beings' right to own pets at all?
QUESTION: WHO Decided to manipulate Public Opinion into believing that skipping heat cycles is "resting" the female?
ANSWER:: Animal Liberationist Extremists who by their own admission, have the ultimate goal of pushing legislation which prohibits the keeping or breeding of any domestic or companion animal as a pet - including service animals.

Are Laws Regulating Frequency of Breeding Harming our Dogs?
Dogs are unique from other animal species in several ways. When they mate, the female's body remains joined to the male for varying periods from a few minutes up to about 3/4 of an hour. This joining is referred to by breeders, as a "tie" and if the male mates the female without a tie, this is referred to as a "slip mating". Slip matings can produce puppies, but they are not normally productive. If the pair are seen mating as in the picture below, and the male steps off right away and they are not "stuck" together then the two are not joined and it has not been a tie. This is one example of unique differences in the dog when compared to other animals.

BACK TO BACK BREEDING OF BITCHES - (on successive heat cycles)
WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?
Interestingly, it was only a few years after the explosion of 'convenience' foods and highly processed packaged foods laden with preservatives and carcinogenic food dies and chemicals, that human health began its steep decline to the current condition, which continues to worsen. I remember a headline in a major newspaper years ago which announced "RECENT RESEARCH LINKS DIET TO HEALTH"
The same steep decline in canine health also began with the introduction of highly processed dog food and mandatory annual vaccinations - which Pfizer and others admit, have an efficacy of at very least three years. It is not necessarily the vaccines themselves which pose the danger It is the number of extenders and preservatives in them which are known, proven carcinogens. ( cancer causing substances).

Something to Consider
My theory is that illness, caused either by direct hereditary influences, OR by other external environmental factors, may become a generational thing with the appropriate circumstances. Could it be that when several generations have passed, during which disease has been caused by external factors, these diseases may become part of the genetic make up? If the answer is 'yes', then we have the power to exert an influence for good on future dog generations, by removing as many negative environmental influences as possible from around our breeding dogs. These could include choosing natural alternatives to supplement legally required vet treatments, reducing or eliminating chemical - laden air sprays, disinfectants, weed killers, garden sprays, plastic wrapped dog food or treats, chemically impregnated carpet and dog beds, and flea collars just to name a few.
We already know
We already know that what I have described above is called 'inheritance' and that living creatures have a predisposition to pass on to their offspring specific traits when combined with the genes of their breeding partners. I am calling this 'biological inheritance'. What this article sets out to do, is to widen the concept of inheritance to include the effects of the external environment around our dogs and to consider the possibility that - again over time - externally induced disease may well become fixed in the genes and transmit themselves to biological inheritance. I call this phenonymon 'Genetic Acclimatization'.
Example
This has already been done with crops, to create strains which are resistant to disease such as rust. Although I am not a proponent of genetic engineering, I use this example as an illustration only.

A perfect example is the beautiful Border Collie. Once, known for its inherent and instinctive prowess in herding sheep. Its magnetic "eye" and wisdom were legendary. But over time the breed gained such popularity as a show dog in the conformation ring, that a perfect coat and markings took precedence over working ability as breeders rushed for the coveted Champion title. The breed parted into two distinct strains - one as a working dog to herd sheep, and the other as a beauty to admire at a trot around a small show ring. With few exceptions, today's Show Border Collie wouldn't know what to do with a mob of sheep.
Because their inborn talent lay dormant for so long, the genes that produced it simply got washed out by the proliferation of genetic material selectively bred for in the show ring.

The DNA of the modern dog is only 2% different to the Wolf
An illustration of Biological evolution is the overall changes in the appearance of the canis species by way of the hundreds of man - made dog breeds in the world today. Although humanly engineered, the process of evolution has been clearly demonstrated by the way in which each breed - over time - now has its own specific and consistent appearance. It would be naive to suggest that these modifications would be confined to physical appearance. Genetic physiological and behavioural traits have also been modified - over time - as well.
Evolution
Broadly speaking, and in its simplest terms, evolution is merely 'change over time' (not to be confused with Darwin's theory of evolution' in respect to the 'theory of Evolution' v 'Creation'). It is the more specific biological evolution that we are concerned with here and also Adaptation evolution. Biological evolution refers to the changes over time that occur in living organisms. Biological evolution is defined as 'descent with modification' and Adaptation evolution as the name suggests, refers to the way living organisms (or creatures) adapt over time to the changes in their own environment. These adaptations can of course be either positive or negative, in line with other universal laws of nature.
