The Puppies at Six Weeks Old

Tthe puppies have been observed daily for character traits and around six weeks old, we start to feel excited for the new families whose names have been pencilled in with blue beside each individual puppy on our big board.  Are there children in the family?  Are there special needs?  Severe allergies or challenged family members?  Our babies are now showing distinct characteristics and we pore over the application form/wish lists making sure that our allocations are matches for each family's individual lifestyle and situation.  It's an especially fun time from now up to departure time.

It is also time to  accustom them to the confinement of crate training and to accept being separated from their siblings for short periods of time.

While crated,  and after some initial (and sometimes very loud!) protests, they settle down to the familiarity of their tv and soon acept the confinement as being a good place where they can play with their toys and snooze.  After some initial surprise at the conditioning tapes of loud engine noises, bangs and other noisy sounds, it all becomes 'old hat' and when they have become quiet and relaxed they are then released from their crates until the following day's session.

Their first introduction to the big outside world and away from familiar surroundings is in the Doodle Trolley for a few moments each day, accompanied by their mama who takes it all in stride and instills conficence in the babies.

The next step in their travel preparation is on the big noisy John Deere Gator as they are driven about the property, still in the  reassuring company of their mama, who thinks the whole thing is a hoot and such fun!

Over the next couple of weeks, the Big Guys' Doodlesmobile goes much faster and is even noisier!   the babies love it and can't wait to be on their way because there is much fun and games at the end of each ride.  By this time, their mama doesn't accompany them any more.  After all they are now 'big guys!
