From Birth To You !

Doggie marriages are 'arranged'  marriages.  The girl's human mama studies pedigrees, hums and hah's over this and that....and eventually  decides who will make the perfect husband for her princess.  Okay!  Decision Made...What Happens Next ?

Why, Lots and lots of text messages of course!

And more text messages

Plenty of girlie Doodle giggling .......and

.......silly behavior

NEXT THE HONEYMOON  Then 61 to 63 days later, The Family Will Arrive !

The lady - in - waiting is pampered with extra loving and attention and if her appetite  takes on some strange desires  these are joyfully accommodated.   As her tummy grows big and there is less room in her tummy, her meals are smaller but more frequent.  Baroque music is played to her to instil an environment of relaxation and tranquility in which the unborn develop and grow in preparation for entry into the world.

The week prior to the expected birth mama has been watched around the clock and a cosy  nest has been provided.  She will puff and pant for a few hours preparing for the birth of her family, and once the first puppy is born it will be quite some time  before all are delivered.  She  will be wanting the comfort of her favorite human/s close by until all of her puppies are safely born & settled.. this could take several more hours.

AND NOW THE BIG MOMENT HAS ARRIVED !

Please don't leave me.  I need to know you are close by.

The first little brand new baby is entering the world

Am I doing good?  Now I have three!

Each  puppy is born in a transparent  silky envelope which is surprisingly tough and strong & has protected the baby inside of its mother's uterus.  The mama will break this with her teeth so that her new baby can begin to breathe. Isn't Nature wonderful?

But mother dogs have several babies in their litter, so if mama is busy changing someone else's  nappy, she may need a helping human hand for her newest little newborn baby to clear its silken envelope.

When everyone is nice and dry and has a round fully tummy, and mama has settled down happily with her new family, we may get to snatch a couple of hours' sleep but we'll keep our ears open for any little squeaks that could mean a baby is getting pushed away from the milk bar or mama's warmth.

Mother dogs know that it is important for them to lick and lick  and lick their little babies, to massage them, warm them up and to change their nappies.  It is hard work, so with all her babies plump and warm and dry,  mama has a well earned sleep and we give a helping hand.

Puppies are born with their eyes and their ears tightly sealed shut, so they can not see and they can not hear.  But their little noses can already sniff out where their siblings and their mother are, and they snuggle up close together for warmth and comfort.

For the next two weeks, each puppy will be weighed each day, and the nest will be kept nice and clean and warm. From birth, each puppy is handled several times a day, picked up, held and stroked.  This is an important part of their early socialization even though they can not hear or see.  We believe that the love we feel for them flows from our hearts and out through our hands, although there are also practical reasons for daily physical examination as well.

AT TWO WEEKS OLD Puppies get their first worming - & then each two weeks until departure

At around two weeks of age the puppies eyes begin to come open and their little ears are unglued.  Audio stimulation is provided by music and playing of tapes, while visual development is encouraged  by the litter being in a light airy place where there is activity going on close by.  Their own television is a further inducement for them to begin to take an active interest in what is going on around them.

FOUR WEEKS OLD

By now, each puppy has been photographed several  times and the photos have been posted on the website. Some families have been notified that we think we may have chosen their new family member.  It won't be confirmed until temperament testing in a week or so, but excitement runs high by now and it is contagious!

FOUR WEEKS OLD  is also the time the  babies have their first solid meal..... a bowl of plain unsweetened non flavored yogurt.  They instinctively know how good it is for them and they tuck right in without any hesitation.  They will now enjoy their big bowl of yogurt every day.  Soon after they are given raw lamb shank bones and beef bones, raw fresh chicken frames as well as minced raw beef and grated cheese.  But they  will continue to drink from their mother as well for the next three to four weeks.

The four week old babies settle down to some serious chewing.  This will provide psycological benefits as well as help with their teething.
