How to Find A  Breeder of the  Authentic Australian Labradoodle

There are now literally hundreds of Labradoodle breeders particularly in America, all claiming to breed the 'Australian' Labradoodle.  Registration with  Associations and Registries does NOT guarantee any more that you are receiving a genuine Australian Labradoodle as developed by the Founders, and in many cases you may not be getting quite what you expect when you hear  'Australian Labradoodle'.

This page used to contain a list of twenty four international breeders licenced to use the ASD Australian Labradoodle Logo  who had pledged to protect breed integrity and  the future of the breed  by  not breeding  their Australian Root Stock with American Poodles, F1B's or other  back crosses or mix and matches which are unfortunately sanctioned by  breed associations.

The International Breeder Listing that was formerly displayed on this page was operating under an  honor system, symbolized by  the internationally trademarked  and distinctive ASD Logo to which  most ASD breeders were faithful .    However over time I received numerous emails from some breeders who claimed others on the list were not abiding by their pledges and  requesting me to remove their names from the Listing.  It was not possible for me to differentiate between truth and rumor and so the list ceased to exist.  But please read on..... there is GOOD News !

The Good News !

THE GOOD NEWS  is that  in April 2008 a new organization was launched which has set up a Registry and Pedigree Database, a sound Code of Ethics and  simple, sensible guidelines for ethical breeding.

The Accredited Australian Labradoodle Breeders ( AALB)   (Australian Labradoodle Breeders Uniting) upholds the values I hold dear in the breed I helped to create.   And no, I had nothing to do with the AALB's formation, and no, I have no official function in its running, although I feel humbly  privileged to be its Breed Advisor for as long as I can be useful.

Most if not all of the prior ASD Listed breeders on this website, have or will become AALB Breeder Members as we strive together to breed to the vision of the Founders for the ASD Australian Labradoodle.   The AALB, rather than handing down mandates in the manner of a dictatorship,  provides choices and incentives for member breeders which encourage them to strive for the highest goals, to refrain from breeding with  lines known to carry  disease, (rather than to sweep it underneath the carpet)  and  to breed for consistency, all of which are things close to my heart.   The AALB has my full endorsement as evidenced by my own membership.

Sincerely,  Beverley

Please  note that Rutland Manor has no affiliation with ALPS  (The Australian Labradoodle Protection Society).    I was  disturbed to read in a recent quarterly journal of ALPS that I was supposed to have infused up to twelve  different breeds, during the development of the Australian Labradoodle.  This is absolutely untrue and should never have been put into print.  I have also never infused a Curly Coated Retriever as has been claimed.

Why There Needed To Be Change

The following letter was sent by the ILA - IALA, ALA to its members.  This letter clearly demonstrates that the Labradoodle Associations  do not share the vision that the Founders had for the breed they created.  My view is, by all means develop a breed any way you want to, but DO NOT call it the same name as the breed someone else has already developed!

LETTER READS:

"Recently the ALAA has evaluated the new ALPS/ASD association and their vision for the Australian Labradoodle as explained on their web page at http://www.alpsdoodles.org/  . It is the feeling of the Board that the ALPS/ASD’s mission and purpose is contrary to the vision of the ALAA.  As ALAA Board members are involved with establishing standards, procedures, and regulations for our association we feel that it is imperative that all Board members be committed to our visionary direction.  Therefore, it has been determined that it is a conflict of interest for policy setting members of the ALAA, officers and committee members, to pledge membership to ALPS/ASD. "

For reasons best known to itself, IALA continues to make public and private derisive comments concerning the Breeding and Research Center status of Rutland Manor.    They prefer to forget who spent so many years developing  the breed that they now want to change and totally control, whilst at the same time using its name.

Notice:  Consumer Affairs Victoria Australia received a request In 2002, from a lady in America who wanted Rutland Manor's claim to be a Breeding and Research Center to be thoroughly investigated.

After an exhaustive three months of providing full documentation we are pleased  to announce that Rutland Manor was able to supply sufficient evidence to substantiate to the satisfaction of Consumer Affairs Victoria, that we are indeed a Breeding and Research Center for the Australian Labradoodle.

The above wording was approved by Consumer Affairs for printing on this website.
