A Heart Warming Story of Inspiration

In 2002 a puppy was born at Rutland Manor, who was destined to change the life of not only his new mom, but the lives of many.  Rosalie called this cream bundle of love "Rocky"  Read Rosalie's story..

I had been living alone for too many years and finally decided I needed a dog for a companion. After researching all the breeds I could find information for, I chose the Labradoodle. It was one of the wisest choices I’ve ever made.   From the moment of his joining me in Albuquerque, NM, my life changed from one of isolation and near depression to one of joy and fulfillment. So, in a sense, Rocky has been a therapy dog since he and I first met.

We started into training early on and Rocky completed formal puppy training when he was five months old and novice obedience at seven months.  We then went onto more advanced training and he earned his CGC at 17 months.

All along the way everyone we've met has been enchanted by Rocky's sense of joy and extreme intelligence.  Since he has been my own personal 'therapy dog' I decided to share his healing personality with others and we became a Delta registered team in August 2004. Rocky and I are also learning canine freestyle, a sport which human and dog move together to music.  I would like to enter into competition in this sport some day, but in the meantime I expect we'll be using canine freestyle to entertain therapy clients very soon.

Update from Rocky & Rosalie May 2005

Rosalie writes 4th May 2005:

"Our canine freestyle club held another demo this past weekend. Rocky and I performed our "Cheeseburger in Paradise" routine again. When the word "cheeseburger" comes up in the lyrics, Rocky does this spectacular happy leap in the air. Rosalie"

Update from Rocky and Rosalie April 2008

STILL DANCIN' !   Rocky and I are continuing to enjoy canine freestyle (dancing with dogs) together. So far we've earned our World Canine Freestyle Federation Beginners title and we're one-third of the way to the next performance level. We've also earned the WCFO Bronze Bar Proficiency title. We enjoy performing at shelter fund-raising events too as well as giving demonstrations at senior facilities.

He's so talented and enjoys dancing with his mama.

 Showcasing  - Muskie - Chicago

Certified Therapy Dog  At Twelve Months of Age

MUSKIE arrived to Jeff and Jean Buending in Chicago from Rutland Manor in Australia, at 10PM CST on the 23rd of July, 2003.

MUSKIE is a pioneer, believed to be the first Australian Labradoodle to have his breed name 'Labradoodle' documented on his Therapy Dog Certified Certificate in 2004.  Until that time they were considered to Cross Breeds and were notated as "Lab Cross Poodle".

MUSKIE  is a Standard Curly Fleece male born to Rutlands Mountain Maid and TP Cool Dude on 12th May 2003.  He arrived in Chicago from Rutland Manor in Australia at 10pm on 23rd July, 2003.  All his training was done by Jean Buending, with Jeff an encouraging and supportive influence.

He  passed his puppy training with flying colors and became a Certified TDI Therapy Dog at TWELVE MONTHS OF AGE.    Muskie is owned by Jean and Jeff B in Chicago and Jean has trained him for this wonderful work.

Muskie completed his training and testing and was certified by Therapy Dogs, Inc. as a Certified Therapy Dog  by 12 months of age!  He completed much of the training and testing late July 04 and became certified for senior living centers which was quickly followed by him completing his tests for hospitals.  Jean says:  "We are so proud of our "little" boy, who just happened  to have only been in America for one year and one day.

Muskie also got his Advanced Degree at the Linden Oaks Psychiatric Hospital, which is part of the Edward Health Systems in Naperville IL.

"Bucky" another RM Australian Labradoodle joined the family in 2005.
