" Bella passed the testing with nearly perfect scores. She lost points for not wanting her mouth handled, but for the parts where she had to deal with patient situations she was absolutely flawless. I was so proud of her!! She even ignored all the treats on the floor during the obedience part. What a good girl."   Joyce.
In October 2006 Joyce and Amber participated in the pilot program of the 'Reading to the Dogs'  for Schools.   This program has since become extremely successful and has spread to other parts of the country and the world.

A STORY TO BRING TEARS TO YOUR EYES

Cynthia writes - "Clancy came to us in Georgia in April 2004 and his parents are Mrs. Bean and Mon Cher, born Feb 18, 2004.  He has stolen our hearts, along with many rolls of toilet paper and other paper goodies.  He successfully completed his Beginner and Advanced Obedience classes in this State. But while we were waiting we were already visiting the local nursing home and they LOVED him.

Hello to Beverley and the RM crew,

His other community effort is to be part of the first grade reading program at Jack Nix Elementary School.  We go with one or two other trained dogs, and owners, to the first grade class and the children come out one at a time to read to the dogs.  The whole experience brings tears to my eyes every time I talk or write about it.  Some of these wonderful children have no one else to relate to and the questions they ask the dogs will break your heart. Such things as, "Do you have anyone to talk to at home?", or "Do you spend a lot of time at home alone?",  or "Clancy, does your Mom fix your dinner for you?".

The whole point is that there is total acceptance of the child and his abilities by the dogs.  It really makes you wonder what's going on out there in the big world.  I'm just so lucky we can be there for a bit to lend some comfort, attention, and companionship.  At one of our reading days, the Georgia State Legislators came to visit the school because the previous year it had won an award of Excellence.

The television crews from Turner Broadcasting, TBS, also came to the school thinking they would just be doing one more political film.  Boy, were they surprised when they saw all 3 of us with our dogs.  After the explanations were over, I think we rated more TV camera time than the rest of the folks. Those camera men really understood what we were doing and how the dogs and children related.  They had some stories themselves.  And needless to say, the Australian Labradoodle breed caused quite a stir.  I loved telling them all about Rutland Manor, your breeding program, and your website.

"I am an artist and to stay motivated I attend an art studio class every Tuesday afternoon.  Clancy has been every time since he joined our family last April.  This has been wonderful socialization for him.  What an eager, intelligent little creature he is.

Hope this hasn't been too long for your time but I just had so much to tell you and wanted you to know how much we have appreciated the breeding program you have worked on so hard and how much we truly love this bundle of energy and love. "

Showcasing -Beppie  -

Little Service Doodle  in Holland

In 2000, a lady doctor in Holland wrote to us requesting a small sized Helping Dog.   We selected "Beppie" as a match for this courageous lady who was running her medical practice from her wheelchair.  The trainer asked Emhe "why get a dog all the way from Australia when there are so many dogs in Holland?

On Beppie's arrival on Dutch shores the twelve weeks old puppy won the trainer's heart over completely when she instinctively retrieved the car keys which were accidentally dropped on the floor.  The rest is history. Thank you Emhe for the following photographs taken for World Animal Day 4th Oct 2004

Dear Beverley,

The photo's I send you in a separate email are made for World Animal Day 4 October. I liked them so much, while you can see how clever Beppie is, that I wanted to share them with you. As you can see she is a perfect helping dog! many greetings and God bless. Emhe

If Emhe feels ill whilst she is out, Beppie is trained to race off to the nearest person, with the S.O.S. plaque for help and lead them back to her mistress.   Beppie has learned to retrieve dozens of articles by name and helps Emhe with a number of household chores.
